Laparoscopic surgery requires entry sites into the abdomen. The laparoscopic tools at the interface between the outside and the inside of the abdomen are called ports. In order to transverse a thicker abdominal wall, bariatric surgery sometimes requires special ports that are longer than traditional ports.
