Internal hernias are particularly dangerous because they are closed-loop obstructions. During a closed-loop obstruction, nothing can enter or leave the intestine including an adequate blood supply. This is a series of four intraoperative shots demonstrating internal hernia with incarcerated intestine, hernia defect sac, and then intestinal contents still viable after reduction of hernia.
