A mesh is a semi permeable barrier or interlaced structure that is made of metal, plastic, cloth or other flexible material. These materials are in the form of strands which are then woven together or interconnected so as to produce a sheet that is selectively permeable to substances depending on the size of space between the mesh strands. When used for sieving any solid matter with a size bigger than the size allowed by the mesh, the solid matter is not allowed through. In medicine, a mesh can be used to refer to a type of skin graft. The skin graft is prepared in such a way that it is able to cover the surface area of the wound that is to be repaired. It is also used to refer to a type of material that is used in hernia repair to fortify the strength of the repaired wall and prevent recurrence.
